Kowloon Walled City Park and the Yamen Building

Located in the Kowloon City District of Hong Kong, this tranquil park is a beautiful sanctuary of peace.

It’s a totally different world compared to what once stood on these grounds. From the mid-twentieth century, it used be a densely populated walled fortress, largely lawless and run by the triads. The notorious Kowloon Walled City was ripe with drugs, fugitives, prostitution and gambling. Such is the notoriety of the Walled City, it has even featured in films such as Jackie Chan’s Crime Story and games such as Call of Duty and Shenmue.

In 1993 after a lengthy eviction period, it was finally demolished.

So for those who don’t know what an asado is, they’re Argentinian style barbeques where the order of the day is meat, meat and more meat. They’re a huge, integral part of Argentinian culture and even considered by many as the national dish.

So here’s Buen Ayre which sits on Broadway Market located in the trendy, hipster area of London Fields, Hackney. Apparently it’s the first authentic Argentinian asado in the UK and has been around since 2004. The chef, John Patrick Rattagan, born in Bueno Aires, has been grilling meat since he was a boy and boy did he have a treat for us tonight!
